Akwa Anali is a Haircare Cosmetic Company handcrafted by Co-Founders Deborah and Sylvester Agyepong. “Akwa” derives from the Akan language (a Ghanaian Language), specifically “Akwaaba,” meaning “Welcome,” while “Anali” is an abbreviation of their daughters’ names. Hence, the slogan: “Where Water Welcomes Natural Hair with Love!”
As proud members of the Black community and parents of young children, the Co-Founders deemed it imperative to instill love, care, and identity into their children, signifying the importance and value of hair that needs to be addressed. It was essential for them to find naturally derived products that would not be harmful to their children and that would allow all children to experience a healthy relationship with their hair, avoiding the use of chemicals to meet societal expectations and standards.
Our vision is to establish a new norm where all Black children love their hair for what it is, whether it’s short, long, kinky, or curly; no type of textured hair should feel restricted. We pride ourselves on using naturally derived ingredients that stem from hot and tropical climates, which reflect our heritage. And guess what? The best part is, if it’s suitable for children, then it’s suitable for the entire family.
